Grover – Yellow male mix, 6 years, 72 lbs
Hey Muppet Fans, Grover here, also known as Super Grover. I was out on one of my many adventures when I crash landed right into the county shelter. Not quite like landing on Mr. Johnson, this place was noisy and scary. They were not singing my song and I shut down, lost weight, checked out. Then the Defenders of Dogs swept in, literally carrying me to the car. Just like my friends in Families Stand Together, they made me part of the family, giving me time to gather myself and my emotions up and feel safe and secure again.
I had to learn to be a dog again. Thank goodness I had a good teacher and am a quick learner. Trust came slowly at first. I was not sure this was the place for me and took a flyer over the fence. I was so happy my foster dad came looking for me. Bond established, this is my place. Toys were a mystery at first, but I found one that felt right and carried it around the house with me. Nobody took it, it was mine. I also started trusting and playing with my foster brother and sister chasing each other around the yard playing keep away. I have even gone for walks on a leash, right past the place I hid when I jumped the fence. I love walks with my foster brother now.
Grover is a very intelligent and loving dog who has learned to walk on a leash but will need a family dedicated to giving him more formal training. He is food motivated which will help with training and cleaning counters. He gets along with other dogs after proper introductions. He has not shown any signs of aggression towards and is very curious about the resident cat who is a bit of a bully. He has adapted to living in the house with his foster family, resting quietly on his bed until in typical Lab fashion he follows foster dad wherever he may be going. Grover would do best in a family with dog savvy children and maybe another dog his size.
