Buster Brown – Chocolate Male X, 3 years, 65 lbs.
Check out Buster Brown! He is named after the old comic strip character and mascot of the Brown Shoe Company. Buster was picked up as a stray and stuck in the animal shelter for more than a month before the Defenders of Dogs at the Labrador Retriever Rescue of Fresno were able to rescue him.
Buster seems to have been someone’s pet, as he knew the commands “sit” and “wait”, when he was evaluated at the shelter, although he was very excited to be getting attention and could barely be still. While his obedience is a little rusty, his foster home is working on that, including regular walks using a Gentle Leader. After being cooped up in a kennel for more than a month, Buster was very excited to be free. He loves to run and play with his foster fur-brother. He plays fetch, and very nicely retrieves the ball and actually drops it to be thrown again! (IYKYK 😊) He is mostly treat motivated, which will assist with further training. His foster describes him as lovable and “a very sweet piece of chocolate and all about fun and play.” In his foster home, he is learning to use a doggy door. He has good house manners, is house trained, and will sleep either on his bed or in a crate. As with many of the dogs we rescue, Buster is just a little slow to trust. Once he knows you can be trusted, he loves attention and cuddles. We do not know how Buster is with cats, but he has encountered them during walks and reacted with curiosity, not aggression.
Buster has been neutered, microchipped, and is up to date on all vaccinations. He is a sweet soul and will make someone a wonderful companion. If you would like to make Buster a member of your family, apply online to adopt today.
