Rue – Chocolate Female, 6 months, 46 lbs.
We hear a lot of stories. Some are small… and some are truly heartbreaking. Rue’s is one of those.
Meet Rue — a puppy who has already experienced both the worst and the best of humanity.
At just 10 weeks old, Rue somehow ended up in a high-kill shelter, already weighing 23 pounds. Then her story took an even darker turn. She was adopted, then “given away,” and eventually picked up again as a stray — only to be reclaimed by her original adopter and surrendered to rescue at just 5 months old, weighing a shocking 17 pounds.
Yes… 17 pounds.
Even for seasoned fosters, her condition was devastating to see.
But Rue? She’s moved forward — and she’s thriving.
Today, Rue is a healthy, happy 46-pound puppy, just shy of 6 months old. And she is everything you could want in a young dog. She’s incredibly friendly, well-adjusted, and wonderful with dogs of all ages and sizes. She happily shares toys, space, and affection with everyone around her.
She’s also doing great with cats when properly introduced. In her current foster home, she’s living with three cats and learning to coexist beautifully.
Rue is simply a joy. She loves to cuddle, play, fetch, and splash in the water. She’s just as content lounging with her people as she is romping with her canine friends.
She is crate trained, fully house trained, and uses a doggy door. Rue should do well with children — she is still a playful 6-month-old puppy, so the occasional tumble may happen — but she has a naturally gentle, nurturing personality. In fact, she’s even helped care for smaller puppies and has been amazing with them.
She enjoys a good rough-and-tumble play session… but what chocolate puppy doesn’t?
Rue is resilient, loving, and ready for a forever home that will never let her down again.
