Porter – Black Male X. 5 years old, 75 lbs.

Hi! I’m Porter 3.0 – or just Porter for short. What’s a non-lab looking guy like me doing here, you ask? Well, I don’t remember much of my past life, but I found myself in a rural shelter with half my back leg missing. It really hurt! The nice lady there saw my sweet spirit and gentle heart and contacted those great people at Labrador Retriever Rescue of Fresno to see if they could help. And they said YES! So that’s how I ended up in a foster home. I went to that V-E-T place and the Dogter thought I’d do much better with the rest of my leg taken off. So, I’ve been stuck in a cone, recovering from surgery and am now ready to find my furever home! Could it be yours?

Porter is a good-natured dog that hasn’t let his injury cloud his outlook on life. He is happy to hang out and be a friend. He is house broken and doesn’t chew stuff up. He will need exercise to keep the other leg strong. Several short walks would be better for him than long walks. He is very strong and will definitely need some continued training to learn to walk politely on a leash. A good diet is also important to keep him at a proper weight. He has no problem getting around on three legs, but will need carpet or area rugs, as it is difficult for him to walk on slick floors. Porter gets along with his foster family’s Labrador, we don’t know how he is with small dogs. A calm dog that won’t be jumping on him to play would be best. The foster family does not have cats, but he does chase them if he sees them in the backyard, so a home without felines is probably best. Porter will be better in a home with no children or one with older children that can use caution around him due to his mobility issues. Porter is microchipped, neutered and up to date on vaccinations. Do you have an empty dog bed that needs to be filled? Porter just might be the right dog to fill that space!
