Gratiano – Black Male mix, 10 years, 85 lbs.

Valorous morrow Labrador lovers, who amongst thee is seeking a forever, faithful companion. “Let me play the fool. With mirth and laughter let old wrinkles come.” I am Gratiano and I only wish to be by your side, to enjoy life with you. I do not seek adventure; I’ve had a life full as my eyes and body confess. My last escapade found me looking through a wire fence, laying on cold concrete like I have most of my life. Then a miracle worker appeared, a lover of hounds like me, and the next ballad of my life began. Soft beds, generous meals, soothing lotions for my sore ears and itchy skin, and my own squeaky toy. All of this is new to me. To quote the bard, “Thy friendship makes us fresh.”

In Shakespeare’s lingo, my name means grateful. And I am truly grateful to the Defenders of Dogs for liberating me during the busy holiday season. I am content to lay on my bed in my foster dad’s office. No long walks for me, I have spent a life on concrete and my joints are sore. My eyes are hazy with cataracts but I still see love through them. I know basic commands like sit, stay, and down. I know how to use the doggy door or to let you know when I have to go take care of business. I love to shake hands, in fact the first thing most people notice about me are the size of my feet.

Gratiano’s gentle and kind personality makes him an excellent choice for someone who is home all day and doesn’t need a dog to go running or hiking. He is curious about the resident cat and may be okay in a home with a dog savvy feline. Gratiano loves his people and would be best as an only dog.
