Bernard – Yellow Male, 2 years, 60 lbs.

Say hello to Bernard! We all love labs, and one of the things we love most is their resilience. Bernard is very handsome, albeit quite shy at first and will need the right situation to help him thrive. Many of our Lab Rescue dogs adapt quickly to a new home and surroundings, but others, like Bernard, take a little longer. We wish he could tell us about his past and why he’s fearful, but all we know is he was picked up as a stray and spent 5 weeks in a shelter. Dogs like Bernard are often overlooked at a shelter – but not by Lab Rescue.

Bernard would do well in a calm environment with patient adopters and it’s important he has a “mentor dog” who has calm energy to teach him that his new people are friends that can be trusted. He is easy to handle on a leash and he’s crate and house trained. He craves attention and the love of a family but it takes him time to adjust. Once he does, you will see his goofy, playful side come out. Many of us who have fostered or adopted a scared, shy guy like Bernard can tell you that the rewards of seeing these dogs blossom are worth all the patience. Once you see the love and trust in his eyes and you know you helped him get there, it is worth its weight in gold and is one of the best feelings there is!

We anticipate that once Bernard is comfortable in his new home, like so many others who came through our program, he will be an amazing companion. If you would like to learn more about Bernard and to see if you are his special person, please fill out an online adoption application.
